In 1964 the British and French governments placed a contract with the study group to carry out a detailed survey of the channel sea bed for a possible immersed or bored tunnel

Film produced by Optimum Productions 1964 - 65

The Channel Tunnel was one of the largest engineering projects undertaken in the 20th century. It forms the vital link between the transportations systems of the UK and continental Europe.

This film begins by looking at the early surveys of the channel sea bed in the 19th century but then focuses on the detailed study in 1964 -65.

Sir William Halcrow and Partners, as part of the Channel Tunnel Study Group, worked in conjunction with Rendel, Palmer and Tritton, Livesey and Henderson and Societe d'Etudes Techniques et Econmomiques.
