2011 - British Council of Offices Regional Awards 2011 - refurbished/recycled workplace award

On 24 May 2011, Halcrow’s headquarters, known as Elms House was a finalist at the British Council of Offices Regional Awards 2011 for London and the south-east of England.

The awards recognise top-quality design and functionality, celebrating innovation and examples of best practice in workplaces.

From over 120 awards entries, the Elms House project was one of six finalists shortlisted for the refurbished/recycled workplace award, up against high-profile office buildings and developments across the region, such as the Nomura offices and the Angel Building in London.

 
2011 - Hermes Creative Awards – Platinum award

Halcrow’s short film, “Designing financing models for sustainable infrastructure”, was recognised with a platinum award from the international organisation when the winners were announced in early May 2011.

Jointly produced by Halcrow’s corporate communications and economics and business solutions teams, the video set the scene for a discussion panel at The Ideas Economy: Intelligent Infrastructure conference in New York. Hosted by weekly news and international affairs publication The Economist, the February event explored a range of innovative solutions to help meet the challenges posed by a rising global population. Halcrow was one of two platinum sponsors.

 
2010 - Young Consultant of the Year – ACE NCE Consultants of the Year
Nariba Gittens receives her award Nariba Gittens receives her award

Graduate engineer, Nariba Gittens has won the prestigious title of Young Consultant of the Year at the Association of Consulting Engineers (ACE) and New Civil Engineer Consultants of the Year awards.

The Young Consultant of the Year Award recognises young excellence and talent in the field of consultancy and engineering. Anyone under 35 providing consultancy services in the built and natural environment was eligible to enter.

Halcrow’s Nariba Gittens and Melanie Buckley accounted for two of the four shortlisted young stars. The New Civil Engineer described Nariba as having “an infectious energy for the profession that may well inspire an entire generation of engineers both in the UK and around the world”.

 
2010 - Gender equality award - the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology
Achieving SET Fair Standard award Chief executive, Peter Gammie receives the award

Known as the SET Fair Standard, the awards were launched in November as a new gender equality award as part of the centre’s portfolio of services aimed at promoting and ensuring the inclusion of women.

Awarded at 3 levels – committed, achieving and outstanding – the SET fair standard is customised for:

- corporates and large organisations
- small and medium sized organisations
- professional institutions
- research facilities and councils
- employer members organisations
- colleges and places of further education

The standard enables businesses to recognise and celebrate progress in developing inclusive workplaces where women have been underrepresented for decades.

 
2009 - Working family award
Working family award

Halcrow has made the top 20, in a list detailing family-friendly organisations that do the most to support their working parents and carers.

As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations work-life balance charity Working Families has launched an inaugural list of the best of the best family-friendly employers from the last three decades. The list is a partner initiative of the UK’s first ever National Family Week.

After many years of campaigning for family-friendly workplaces and 19 years of running the Working Families Employer Awards, the charity has published the definitive list of Top Employers for working families.

Winners have shown leadership in one or more of the following areas: flexible working, childcare provision, maternity and/or paternity policy and help with eldercare responsibilities.

 
2009 - Scottish Council for Development and Industry’s (SCDI) International Awards

Halcrow picks up school partnership award

Over the last three years Halcrow has worked closely with staff and pupils from the St Roch's secondary school and its linked primary schools in Glasgow, bringing the world of work into the classroom.

One of Halcrow’s main inputs has been the ‘bridge design challenge’. Run by Colin Walker, the project involves primary pupils in all aspects of the bridge design process – from early creations on the drawing board, through to construction.

 
2009 - British Construction Industry Awards

The BCI awards

Three Halcrow projects celebrated success at this year’s British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards for 2009.

Halcrow’s Dames Point Container Terminal won the prestigious International Award, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) Woolwich Arsenal Extension won the Best Practice Award and the Dounreay Site Restoration project came away with the Civil Engineering Award.

The BCI Awards are widely regarded as the industry's 'Oscars' and are the most rigorously judged awards in the construction sector. 2009 once again brought a huge response representing over 170 of the best projects in the UK and abroad.

 
2009 - Consultancy of the Year Award in the Construction Industry Awards, the Hard Hats

Consultancy of the Year Award

Organised by the UK’s Contract Journal and sponsored by Grant Thornton, New Holland Construction and HSS Hire, the awards are designed to reward excellence across the whole supply chain, recognise innovation and celebrate best practice.

As Consultancy of the Year, Halcrow demonstrated evidence of encouraging collaborative working, strong team integration and commitment to health and safety across all areas of its business. The company also demonstrated evidence of successful business performance and examples of management skill throughout 2008.
