The ageing water and sewerage network in Łódź has been transformed by a programme of repairs and investment.
As contract engineer for the EU funded project, Halcrow supervised the upgrading of the city’s existing networks and ensured the delivery of a modern, integrated system which meets the needs of people in Lodz and its surrounding districts.
Łódź, Poland’s third largest city, is a key growth point and reliable, infrastructure is essential to supporting economic development. Raising sanitation standards to EU levels will also deliver a better quality of life for local people.
The comprehensive programme of works included modernising the water supply and infrastructure that lies beneath Al. Wlokniarzy, one of Łódź’s main thoroughfares. We also supervised the water and sewerage system for outlying districts such as Gorna and Widzew.
The wide-ranging programme of works, which took almost four years, is expected to reduce pollution levels in the city’s rivers. A more reliable water delivery service will also increase the number of customers using the water system.
