Role: Civil and structural engineer
Halcrow Yolles was appointed by the University of Glasgow as civil and structural engineering consultant for the design of two flat-slab reinforced concrete framed buildings connected by a high-level link block structure. The project will provide space for medical research and laboratory facilities.
The first building has six levels, and comprises the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre (GCRC). The aim of the centre is to consolidate internationally recognised cardiovascular research groups and to provide a multidisciplinary, collaborateive research environment.
The second building has seven levels, and houses the Glasgow Biomedical Research Centre (GBRC), a major research hub at the University of Glasgow in the area of biomedical science.
The principal aim of the GBRC is to create an internationally competitive centre of research excellence in a multi-disciplinary environment, from molecular structure (crystallography), through to microbiology, molecular parasitology and immunobiology.
