the bypass has effectively eased traffic congestion and reduced air pollution

Seminal highway scheme reduces congestion and pollution.

A 13.6km section of dual-carriage motorway – the first of its kind in Romania – has helped bolster the country’s national road modernisation programme since opening in November 2007.

Halcrow teamed up with Romanian consultancy Search to provide an enviably comprehensive offering, augmenting global expertise, skills and resources with local knowledge.

Works for the Pitesti bypass included a four-lane motorway, a two-lane road, 11 bridges and overpasses, and two junctions, as well as extensive protection, walling and road rehabilitation.

Designed to re-route heavy transit vehicles, the bypass has effectively eased traffic congestion and reduced air pollution. Halcrow’s input has helped improve safety and eliminate bottlenecks on this important pan-European roadway.

Linking Pitesti with Bucharest the bypass is part of the Pan European Corridor IV, which carves through central Europe to the Black Sea port of Constanta.
