The City of Edmonton’s strategic vision calls for a more compact, liveable and sustainable city, where people have the opportunity to make alternative transport choices.
Expanding the light rail transit (LRT) network is one of the ways the city is planning to meet these objectives. Halcrow is participating in a study to determine the preferred alignment for the proposed southeast, west and northwest LRT routes. Halcrow has developed a direct demand model – including a park and ride sub-area model – which provides a quick response tool for evaluating multiple corridors and station locations.
Our approach enables high-level assessment of the likely transit oriented development potential at each station, and its impact on forecasted ridership. Halcrow’s model also includes recommendations for LRT operations using peak hour demands to estimate service and fleet requirements.
