Linking Dublin’s existing suburban DART lines with its intercity, light rail, metro and bus networks, the Dublin Interconnector will be the first underground passenger railway in Ireland and will provide multiple transportation interchanges and a rail route beneath the busy city centre.
Appointed by client Iarnrod Eireann, a Halcrow-led joint venture will deliver the Railway Order submission, and its related design documents, for the proposed 9-km underground railway. The €2.4 billion project will increase passenger journeys from 30 million to 100 million per annum, trebling available capacity.
An integral component in Dublin’s proposed integrated suburban railway system, the new line will reinforce the shift from private to public transport; combating the congestion choking greater Dublin and providing residents with sustainable transport options.
The Halcrow joint venture partnership is responsible for developing the reference design and contract documentation for the public-private partnership (PPP) contract, preparing the environmental impact statement, and supporting the parliamentary approval process.
