Role: Full structural engineering services

Baycrest Home for the Aged accommodates 372 long term care residents and 100 beds in a Centre for Cognitive Disorders; 472 places in all. The Centre for Cognitive Disorders incorporates a short-term program for diagnosis and treatment, and a long-term program for residents with vascular dementia. Recognizing that a home-like environment is needed for satisfactory long-term care, the new centre is made up of 36 semi-autonomous, home-like clusters. Each consists of thirteen private bedrooms and a living room, dining room.

In addition to the structural design, a detailed review of the proposed façade was conducted. The review included estimating the environmental conditions appropriate for the building and its occupants. Periodic site review services were also provided during the installation of the building envelope systems, including the exterior masonry cladding, glazing systems, skylights and roof systems. Limited on-site performance testing was also conducted during the installation of the air barrier / vapour retarder, masonry, curtain wall and skylights.
