Halcrow’s reworking of the master plan provided our clients with a land use mix that could be sustained by the existing infrastructure

Bahrain’s award winning financial harbour is a showcase for urban design.

Covering 380,000m² of reclaimed land, the eye catching harbour scheme is a complete financial city and self-contained community in the centre of Manama, the capital of Bahrain. It comprises 10 distinct business, leisure and residential projects and includes Bahrain’s two tallest towers.

Acting as consultant to the Bahrain Financial Harbour Holding Company, Halcrow played a key role in designing the master plan. We also designed and supervised the construction of the reclamation areas and elements of the marina.

We were commissioned to validate and rework the existing concept plan for the harbour project. Our reworking ensured that the development met its gross floor area targets and provided the clients with a land use mix that could be sustained by the existing infrastructure.

In addition Halcrow provided consultancy and design services for the following stages:

  • guidelines for plot development
  • landscape frameworks three dimensional master planning
  • urban design modelling
