Halcrow’s Neil Currie has attended an informal luncheon with the president and chief executive of the Institution of Structural engineers (IStructE).

On Thursday 20 January, Professor Roger Plank the 91st president of the Institution and their Chief Executive Martin Powell visited the Lancashire and Cheshire branch of the IStructE to visit the membership and to inaugurate the new chairman of the branch.

During their visit there was an opportunity for Neil Currie and other IStructE branch committee members to attend an informal luncheon with them and take part in an informal discussion on a wide variety of topics.

Following lunch, as a fellow of the IStructE, Neil Currie also attended the inaugural fellow’s forum of the Lancashire and Cheshire branch with the president, chief executive, branch chairman, a member of the trustee board and a selection of esteemed fellows from across the region.

Topics relating to the future of the industry and the challenges that currently face the structural engineering community were debated and several positive suggestions for raising the profile of engineering in the broader community and maintaining the quality of engineering, were proposed.
