As part of maintaining Halcrow’s reputation as a leading player in the delivery of low-carbon solutions, the company recently carried out a survey of its major clients.
Some 15 organisations took part, with a combined annual spend on infrastructure of over £15 billion. The survey assessed barriers and opportunities clients experience in considering carbon in infrastructure, including investment decision making, planning, design and build, and maintenance.
The survey's findings show that a systems and integrated approach to carbon management is essential to realising material reductions in carbon emissions over the life of infrastructure. As well as the study's findings, the report also includes a framework for carbon management which can be used to help organisations identify their existing position related to carbon, potentially identify gaps and map the connections that may be required to improve performance and to promote a systems-based approach.
The results were very well received at a recent Halcrow-hosted workshop in London, where clients were informed about the company’s approach to low-carbon solutions.
Infrastructure has a significant part to play in achieving a low-carbon economy and Halcrow has a pivotal role in assisting organisations achieve their aims in this area.
Halcrow consultants Mark Browning and Paul Stephenson undertook the study. A copy of the findings can be viewed here.
