Two Halcrow projects have been shortlisted in this year’s British Construction Industry Awards.
The Broadland Flood Alleviation project has been shortlisted for the Major Civils Project category for projects over £50 million capital cost.
Ten years ago the Environment Agency awarded a 20-year contract to the Halcrow/Bam Nuttall joint venture, Broadland Environmental Services Limited, to maintain and improve the flood defences in Broadland, East Anglia. The £118 million project is now nearing the end of the programme of improvement works and moving on to a maintenance phase.
Khalifa Port Marine Structures and Reclamation, Abu Dhabi has been shortlisted within the International category. This green field development, which includes marine structures, bridges, reclamation and dredging, has been delivered using the highest environmental standards to protect its adjacent coral reef. On completion of all five phases in 2030, Khalifa Port will be one of the largest ports in the world.
Broadland Flood Alleviation project is also eligible for the Environmental Award, the Conservation Award, and the Best Practice Award. Whilst both shortlisted projects will be considered for the Judges Special Award
Antony Oliver, editor of New Civil Engineer magazine and member of the judging panel, commented: “This year's BCI Awards have once again demonstrated that with its depth of skills, vision and teamwork, the construction industry have continued to deliver clients both extraordinary value for every pound they spend and fabulous projects that excite and delight their users and the public. The whole judging panel is looking forward to visiting each project on the shortlist to decide and then reward the best of the best for 2011.”
The awards take place on Wednesday 12 October at Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
