The Consultants H&S Forum, comprising Halcrow, Atkins, Arup and Mott MacDonald, has recently published guidance for construction industry professionals on engaging their clients on the importance of demonstrating leadership in health and safety on their projects.
The booklet, entitled Client leadership on health and safety will be distributed by forum members across the UK and to their operations in the Middle East, North America, Europe and Asia.
Halcrow’s safety, health, environment and quality director Nigel Valvona said: “The guidelines highlight how important it is to establish a healthy dialogue with clients about safety issues right at the beginning of a project, to ensure effective risk management. We are proud to be part of what we hope will be an effective aid to reducing the number of accidents on projects.”
The booklet emphasises the importance of establishing a shared vision and values that set high standards for the project. Full engagement on these issues with the client is essential for the delivery of a high performing project
