Two Halcrow projects have walked away with prizes at one of the UK’s most prestigious health and safety awards.
The Association for Project Safety (APS) is a multi-disciplinary membership body for those who operate in, or have an interest in, Health and Safety Risk Management in the Construction Industry. The APS CDM awards recognise projects that demonstrate excellence in design and construction health and safety risk management.
The winners were announced at the APS annual awards dinner held in London on 8 September.
The CDM co-ordinator team who worked on Glasgow’s eye-catching Tradeston Bridge won the CDM co-ordinator of the year award. This award category recognises the co-ordinator who best demonstrated excellence in the execution of their duties under the CDM regulations. A key component of Glasgow’s riverside regeneration, the double curved structure was created in partnership with the architects Dissing and Weitling. Halcrow were also the structural design engineers on the project, demonstrating the achievement of the teams in delivering a successful structure. For more information on the Tradeston Bridge project please view the award poster here.
Project of the year went to Halcrow’s Cobbins Brook flood alleviation scheme in Waltham Abbey. The category recognises projects that demonstrate excellence in design and construction health and safety risk management from inception through to completion. The awards also consider the use, maintenance and eventual deconstruction of the project. Halcrow was both designer and CDM Coordinator for this project. Cobbins Brook has also already won an exceptional merit award at the 2010 ICE East of England awards and was highly commended at the 2010 Construction News Quality awards.
Halcrow group SHEQ director Nigel Valvona said: "These are fantastic wins for Hacrow that reflects our commitment towards continual improvement of health and safety throughout the organisation and the projects we work on. Both of these wins reflect the way in which we worked alongside our clients to achieve the highest safety standards."
