Halcrow has assisted St Modwen in gaining planning approval from Sunderland City Council for the redevelopment of a former glassworks site at Lisburn Terrace in Sunderland.

The £10 million mixed-use development will deliver much needed family housing as well as creating new jobs in the area.

The high quality scheme on what is a key city gateway will achieve sustainable regeneration through encouraging sustainable modes of transportation.

The Halcrow transport planning team prepared and submitted a Transport Assessment and Travel Plan designed to maximise excellent public transport links.

Halcrow project manager Mark Powell said: “Pedestrian and cycle connectivity to neighbouring communities and the city centre will be provided through safe and user friendly new infrastructure whilst awareness campaigns will maximise sustainable travel patterns to the development”.

Remediation and infrastructure work will now get underway with the aim of bringing forward the first phase of development in early 2011.
