October 2010
Halcrow will be at the forefront of a number of high-profile energy events in October.
Established energy expert Mark Gabriel, Halcrow’s senior vice president for power in North America, is set to play a significant role in the events, one of which is being sponsored by Halcrow.
Starting on 19 October, Mark will be moderating the consumer engagement roundtable at GridWeek 2010 in Washington, D.C. – the most prestigious North American utility industry conference on Smart Grid. Smart Grid delivers electricity from suppliers to consumers using two-way digital technology to control appliances at consumers’ homes to save energy, reduce cost, and increase reliability and transparency.
The event is supported by organisations such as the United States Department of Energy, the National Institute for Standards (NIST), Edison Electric Institute (EEI), and the American Public Power Association (APPA). Roundtable panelists will analyse outreach strategies used by different utilities in their Smart Grid rollouts to identify common themes and tactics that lead to successful communications with stakeholder groups.
Next, Mark will head to the EEI’s strategic issues committee, to be held in Sunny Isles Florida from 20 to 22 October. The event promises ‘open and free-wheeling’ discussion on issues such as Smart Grid, technologies and business models. Mark will be speaking on technology roadmapping, which helps organisations match short-term and long-term goals with specific technology solutions to help achieve these objectives.
Halcrow is also sponsoring EEI’s 45th Financial Conference in California on 31 October, which provides a forum for global utility representatives, analysts, investment and commercial bankers, and other investors to meet in a common area for information exchange on industry issues and competitive strategies across multiple markets.
Based in Denver, Mark is the author of Visions for a Sustainable Energy Future, recently published by Fairmont Press and the winner of the 2009 Indie Award for excellence in environmental writing.
