Mark Gabriel has joined Halcrow as senior vice president, Power, for Halcrow in North America, responsible for the company’s growth in this market sector across the United States and Canada.
Mark built his career on 20 years of experience in the energy business. He has worked across a broad set of industry issues from advanced metering and intelligent infrastructure to advanced generation, gas and oil technology deployments. He has developed several proprietary analytic techniques in mergers and acquisitions, technology roadmapping and strategic messaging. His clients have included some of the nation’s largest investor‑owned utilities as well as a number of co-ops, G&Ts, municipal entities, NASA, DOE, the State of Maryland and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.
“With more than two decades of experience in the power and energy market sector Mark is well-positioned to help the company expand its reach within this growing market,” said Michael Della Rocca, group board director and president of Halcrow in North America.
Mark most recently held a position with R.W. Beck as senior vice president, Energy, where he was responsible for the firm’s $35 million energy sector practice. He also served as president and founder of Positive Energy Directions, which was acquired by R. W. Beck in 2006. Prior to that appointment, Mark spent eight years as the Electric Power Research Institute’s chief marketing and sales officer. He was acting president of EPRI Traditional, where he led the external and client relations for the nation’s largest industry-wide R&D consortia, whose members represented over 90 percent of the electricity sold in the U.S. as well as representing 40 countries worldwide. On behalf of the EPRI Board, Mark led the Electricity Sector Framework for the Future, a collaborative effort to shape the technical, economic and regulatory future of the U.S. electricity industry.
Commenting on his appointment, Mark said; “I am excited about joining a prestigious organisation such as Halcrow with its deep bench of professional talent, worldwide reach, and vision of sustaining and improving the quality of people's lives. The energy business is at a crossroads with a great need to help manage the challenges of carbon and capacity, intelligent infrastructure, customer engagement, new business models and solving the energy/water nexus. We will be working to serve the electric and gas sectors with independent, objective and technical support."
Based in Denver, Mark is the author of the new book, Visions for a Sustainable Energy Future published by Fairmont Press.
