Halcrow has signed up to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) – the world’s largest network of organisations committed to clear sustainability principles.
As a strategic policy initiative for businesses, the UNGC advocates ten universally accepted statements in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
As a signatory, Halcrow commits to:
- embed the UNGC’s ten principles at the heart of company strategy, culture and day-to-day operations, including Halcrow subsidiaries and supply chain
- promote the UNGC and its ten principles through available communications channels
- communicate annually with stakeholders on efforts to implement the UNGC principles and post this progress report on the UNGC website
Halcrow is strongly positioned to deliver on the UNGC’s ten principles, outlined below:
Human rights
Businesses should:
- support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights
- ensure they are not complicit in human rights abuses
Labour standards
Businesses should uphold:
- the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining
- the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour
- the effective abolition of child labour
the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation
Environment
Businesses should:
- support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges
- undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility
- encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies
Anti-corruption
Businesses should work against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.
