The core walls of the tower are being constructed using self consolidating concrete

February 2009

The Bay Adelaide Centre, West Tower has won in the material development and innovation category at the 2008 Ontario Concrete Awards.

The centre, a 1.1 million ft², 51-storey commercial office tower located in downtown Toronto, Canada, includes four below-grade levels of retail space and is connected to an extensive underground pedestrian walkway called the ‘PATH’.

The tower, which was ‘topped off’ in September of 2008, and is scheduled to be completed in 2009, is comprised of a steel structure with a concrete core and composite floors. The core walls of the tower are being constructed using self consolidating concrete (SCC); making it one of the first North American projects to utilise SCC to this scale.

Halcrow Yolles provided structural engineering services for this impressive tower.
