Halcrow is delighted to welcome Dick Thomas as coastal director to its maritime business group.
His role will involve leading on Halcrow's coastal business strategy and managing key client relationships within the UK and Europe region. He will also bring his experience to bear in the form of technical input to projects on a global basis.
Dick Thomas joins Halcrow from Faber Maunsell|AECOM with more than 34 years experience in coastal engineering and management. His expertise lies in; coastal and flood management, coastal processes and economic analysis. His broad range of experience has seen him work on high-profile projects in the UK, and overseas in the Netherlands, Eastern Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and South East Africa.
As someone who is passionate about this profession, Dick is extremely active in his field. He has recently been chairman of the UK steering group for updating the CIRIA 'Rock Manual' and 'Beach Management Manual'. He is an advisor to the EA/Defra Sustainable Asset Management theme technical advisory group. Dick is also a past chairman of the CIWEM Rivers and Coastal Group.
Dick will be based in Halcrow's Peterborough office and will report to Halcrow's regional director Ben Hamer who said: "Dick's appointment is a real boost to our 100-strong coastal team. His knowledge, credibility and reputation are second to none, and I am delighted to welcome Dick to this new position."
