Halcrow has been appointed by the Carbon Trust to provide facilitation skills to put in place carbon saving practices in the aggregates industry.

The change management work, undertaken in conjunction with consulting firm Sysdoc, involves visiting quarries, holding workshops and measuring the reduction in energy consumption that arises from applying the Carbon Reduction Toolkit.

The work has now started, working on-site at one of the world's largest suppliers of heavy building materials to the construction industry.  The work will run through to the end of March 2010 with the possibility of further extension.

Project director, Rupert Booth said: “The UK aggregates sector emits 2.6 million tonnes of CO2 per year and this must be reduced if the UK is to meet its commitments of reducing its CO2 by 80% by 2050.  Halcrow and Sysdoc are naturally delighted to be selected to undertake this work of national importance.”
