Marinas and small harbours
The last 20 years have seen a significant increase in demand for marina and small craft harbour developments around the world, and Halcrow as been involved in planning, modelling, design and supervision for many of these schemes.
Our services include:
- recreational facilities for coastal developments
- maintenance and renovation of existing facilities
- conversion of existing port facilities
- new construction within existing harbour basins or protected by breakwaters
We can also provide expert guidance on funding for initial development, operational costs, revenues and tariffs, and our asset management engineers can help develop plans for proactive maintenance of marine infrastructure investments.

Cruise facilities
Cruise facilities are one of the fastest growing and most visible sectors of the maritime industry and a significant part of Halcrow’s maritime business. We have provided concept to delivery services for landmark cruise facilities throughout the world, including feasibility studies, masterplanning, design, construction management, landside infrastructure and operation evaluation.
Ro-Ro terminals
Halcrow has been extensively involved in the development of Ro-Ro terminals from their inception, and has built up an enviable range of experience in this market. Our experience includes studies, design, procurement, construction, operations and maintenance of Ro-Ro linkspans, fixed ramps, marshalling areas, traffic systems and terminal facilities. We have been involved in delivering more than 40 linkspans and 20 fixed ramps around the world.
Quays and jetties
Halcrow has a history of developing engineering solutions for quays and jetties that extends back over 125 years. Our skills include:
- feasibility studies and concept designs
- performance designs for design & construct contracts
- detailed design of suspended deck structures, continuous quay walls, island structures and dolphins
