We contribute to the emerging understanding surrounding sustainable transport and engage in the debate by regularly presenting papers at conferences and publishing in journals

Working on the issues that matter; demonstrating creativity, originality, and innovation.

The Transport Research skill group has led and contributed to many high-profile, cutting-edge studies. We have key specialisms in transport and climate change, transport strategy, scenario analysis, integrated transport and land use planning, accessibility planning, traffic demand management, road pricing and congestion charging, smarter choices, streetscape design, and other emerging policy research areas.

We undertake exploratory research (structure and identify new problems and issues), constructive research (develop solutions) and empirical research (test the feasibility of solutions). We can provide thinking in emerging fields and new solutions to old problems. The research team is led by Dr Robin Hickman, an Associate Director at Halcrow and a Research Fellow at the Transport Studies Unit, University of Oxford.

The energies, experience, and knowledge of our staff make our work distinctive. Many of the team combine skills and experience in more than one subject field.  We specialise in drawing from the wide-ranging professional expertise from across the Halcrow Group and further afield to develop multi- and cross-disciplinary thinking. We work in collaboration with academic partners, and regularly test and disseminate our work by presenting papers at transport planning conferences and publishing in journals.
