Halcrow’s traction and rolling stock team is highly experienced in all stages of a railway vehicle’s lifecycle; from the initial concept through design, procurement and manufacture, to maintenance and overhaul.

The team offers complete project and engineering services, ranging from specific technical advice to complete turnkey project management of major projects for both new-build and refurbishment contracts. Our design team works with an industry compatible 3D modelling system, using it for anything from small modifications to complete vehicle design of both passenger and freight rolling stock.

Successful traction and rolling stock projects rely on multi-disciplinary skills to cover the many areas of expertise needed within the field of railway infrastructure and vehicles. Halcrow’s engineers are experienced in all aspects of railway systems including infrastructure and signalling, traction and rolling stock. Our team also has the multi-disciplinary skills of Halcrow worldwide as a resource as and when required.

Our world-class team brings together the right combination of experience and expertise for each and every project. Our experience covers critical interfaces between the rolling stock and its environment, including work on the compatibility of new electric multiple-units with the signalling system, and keeping new trains within the kinematic envelope constraints of the railway infrastructure.
